The valve operates based on oil pressure: once oil pressure exceeds 14 PSI, the valve restricts airflow to the compressor’s unloader, allowing the unit to build pressure effectively. When the compressor shuts off and oil pressure drops below 14 PSI, airflow is redirected to the unloader, relieving head pressure and allowing for a no-load startup on the next cycle.

Troubleshooting Tip:
If your compressor appears to be unloading while running or not pumping much air, disconnect the copper line going from this valve to the unloader tower. There should be no air going out of this valve to the unloader tower while the compressor is running. If there is air coming out of the line while the compressor is running and compressor produces more air with the line removed, the hydraulic unloader would be faulty and should be replaced.
